Andrew grew up in Perth, Ontario, Canada, where his family belonged to the Presbyterian Church. He completed high school in Ottawa, where he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in History & Geography at Carleton University, paying his tuition by working as a ski instructor, a waiter, and a personal income tax processor for the federal government. There he met and married Joanna LaSalle, and came into contact with the Reformed Presbyterian Church, and its seminary, Ottawa Theological Hall. He finished his Master of Divinity degree at Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and pastored congregations in San Deigo, California, and Columbus, Indiana, before arriving in Syracuse in the summer of 2003. Andrew volunteers as an Assistant Chaplain at Upstate University Hospital, and at Gracefield Christian Camp and Retreat Centre in Quebec. He enjoys singing choral music and writing poetry. The Scheps have four sons and one daughter.
